dream: I have one recurring dream which has haunted me for over a month. It is in black and white (which is odd since I usually see colour) except for two things (which I will get to).I call it: "Resistance is futile
I'm in a shadowy corridor of a skyscraper, but I'm positive that it's empty, which is bizarre considering the odds. I turn left, into a dark room lit by a white moon and I immediately go into a cabinet and pull out a folder, like I know exactly what I'm looking for- but this isn't my office, and I'm not supposed to be there. I look in the folder as if to check something and inside I glance at it, I see 2 pics of me and lots of info (all about me), like 20 pages of it. I know it's the right file. I put the folder in my right coat pocket and when I look up there's a shadowy figure at the door.
I know this person is bad somehow, and he pulls out a gun and shoots me in the shoulder. Instead of pain though, I suddenly I feel stonger. I smile at him and he's scared. I take my own gun (I distinctly remember that it has a silencer) and shoot him through the chest, with my wounded arm, and he's dead. Unlike me though, no blood comes from his injury. Odd. I sense more danger so I exit by the window. I run down the street and I feel incredibly strong, like supernaturally strong. Even though the blood is pouring out and leaving a trail along the pavement, I'm running at like 60 k an hour. I run for what seems forever until I get to a hospital.
I go in to get the bullet taken out of my arm, but suddenly I'm surrounded by my enemies, the doctors have been replaced by the bad guys. For a second I'm frozen because I realize all my friends (the real doctors) must be dead. I run out, running like the wind and I accidently leave the folder at the hospital. I can't go back for it now though, I'll steal it back later. I'm still running and the band of doctors are still following me. We're in this dark alley that goes on and on and on.
I'm running when I pull up to a black car. There's people inside who offer me a ride, but I'm convinced that they're against me tho and I push the offer away. They keep trying to help me, but I won't even look at them. Finally, they pull away, and just as they do, I realize that they are friends after all. I pick up the speed and yell after them, I've changed my mind, but no matter how fast I go (150 k and hour) they get farther and farther away, never looking back though I know they heard me.When they finally disappear I just sort of give up. I stop running and I sit and turn. The doctors are still following, and I could kill them, I have a gun, they only have razors and scalpels, but I can't. Suddenly I'm tired, still strong, but very very tired. Finally, they're here. They start to fight me, but I'm not fighting. They kill me with the scalpels, and I scream this incredibly loud, piercing, agonizing scream. A horrible, awful scream. The entire city must hear it, but nobody helps me, and I die.
Weird details: the dream is in black and white except for the blood from my arm which is very very red and the hubcaps of the black car which are blue. The hospital smells like Indian curry. There's no dialogue (there's sounds, but no words), except when I'm screaming, and even then I don't SAY anything if you know what I mean.
"Pat's" Dream Interpretation:
A recurring dream is letting you know that there is something in your life that needs to be recognized as being a challenge, and changed so it won't cause you any problems or hurt anymore. Until this message is understood, the dream recurs over and over again. You dreamed in black and white images, which is probably a metaphor for the saying, "Seeing things in black & white (only)." Think about what that quote means...it is pointing out that there are grey areas as well as color, or that there is more to the entire "picture" or your life/the specific challenge than meets the eye. Title of dream: "Resistance is Futile." The very title you chose is telling you something very important, and is one of the main messages of your dream. It sounds like you have been resisting a particular situation in your life that is only getting more difficult each time you resist it, until finally you realize that it is futile to resist the change any longer. Change hurts when we resist it. That resistance is what causes so many of us so many sleepless nights, and our lives turn into chaos until we finally give in to the change.
SHADOWY CORRIDOR/HALL: a hallway is a narrow path, symbolizing a place you must travel through in your waking life. You don't have many choices but to travel down this path, and if it's dark that means you are not seeing clearly, and need to step back and re-evaluate your situtation from different angles.
SKYSCRAPER: any building is a symbol of one's entire Self...physical, spiritual, emotional, mental. A skyscraper in particular is a symbol of great potential and opportunities! Notice that you felt confident of the hallway/narrow path being empty, despite the odds. That would mean no obstacles or diversions.
Turning LEFT: symbolizes rational or intellectual thinking, as well as being receptive.
DARK ROOM lit by a WHITE MOON: a room symbolizes a part of your Self which is, in this case, barely illuminated. A moon can be symbolic of many things, such as chaos, romance, creativity, passion, change. The color WHITE is symbolic of purity and perfection, and also of a clean slate ready for change.
FOLDER OF INFO all about you: every dream focuses on oneself, but this dream is especially pointing that fact out to you...this is all about YOU. It's meant to cut through to the real deal, so to speak.
Numbers 2 & 20: In basic numerology, on is supposed to add numbers together. You have 2 showing up twice (the number 2, then the number 20 which is 2+0=2) so I'll interpret the 2: balance is needed.
SHADOWY FIGURE @ DOOR: every person in our dream is actually a reflection of our own Self. Negative people are pointing our areas in our own life that we haven't perfected as of yet. They are representing our challenges, fears, and obstacles. It is said that we conquer our dark side best by making friends with it; showing compassion and patience. Running away symbolizes fear, fighting with a gun is symbolic of aggression and resistance, and bleeding is symbolic of loss of energy or life force. You were shot in the shoulder, which is symbolic of that body part's metaphors: "shouldering the blame/responsibilities;" "feeling the weight of the world on one's shoulders," etc. Since you said this made you feel stronger instead of pain, this may be symbolic of this lesson in your life making you stronger, even though it causes discomfort or seems bad, initially, it's ultimately good for you.
SHOOTING ANOTHER: this would symbolize killing off aspects of your own Self. You shot him in the CHEST which symbolizes emotional feelings of love or pain. NO BLOOD would signify that this is an illusion; you can do no harm to this aspect of yourself as it pertains to this situation your dream is about.
DEAD: death means change and transformation.
WINDOW: symbolizes expanded vision or perception.
This part of your dream is telling you that even though you feel strong enough to resist the changes, they are inevitable and resisting them does cause harm in your life. You are losing valuable energy/life force even though you may feel forceful and strong, and don't see the internal damage being done by the proverbial "bullet."
RUNNING is a symbol for avoidance, caused by any number of things...fear, resistance, not being ready, etc. It can also symbolize a need to hurry, or impatience. You as the dreamer are the best judge of which one this symbol represents in your dream. How did it make you feel? Was this feeling temporary, or was the solution temporary?
HOSPITAL: represents a need for healing, and that help is available.
SURROUNDED BY ENEMIES who were supposed to be healers/doctors: there are most likely situations in your life in which you think you may be making the right decisions, but which turn out to be hurting you/you risk hurting yourself. Your dream's symbols are repeatedly pointing this out, and you need to view your current predicaments with a new outlook.
TEMPORARILY FROZEN: people freeze for many different reasons...their emotions are frozen due to hurt beyond their capacity to cope with; not being sure how to handle a situation; fear.
LEAVING FOLDER BEHIND: since this folder holds your vital information of your own Self, and you are running away in fear, this is pointing out that you are, in essence, turning your back on your Self, and letting fear take control. This will lead many a person on a wild goose chase their whole lives, until they can finally face what is bothering them. Then the "problem" gets resolved, and we learn that the fear is so much greater a problem than the original problem was, to begin with.
BAND OF DOCTORS: I'm going to focus in on this paricular phrase you used. Note that you didn't say "enemies." I believe you realize deep down that healing is available for you, but you feel like you are being ganged up on instead. Try to see the situation that this dream is pointing towards in your life from a different angle.
DARK ALLEY: in the context of your dream, I believe this is symbolic of making the wrong choices and choosing a path that has the illusion of being the way out, but which is really just a diversion and a way for you to avoid the inevitable a little while longer. It's dark, which means unenlightened. It does seem to go on forever, because we have free will and can avoid problems for a long, long time in many different ways. But doing so leaves us feeling empty and like we are "spinning our wheels" instead of accomplishing our goals.
BLACK CAR: black is the color of the unconscious mind, or the unknown. BLUE is the color of spirituality. Your friends represent the unknown or not yet familiar aspects of your own Self. These aspects keep trying to make life easier for you, but you are resisting the changes necessary. These changes will take place, it's just a matter of how and when, and you yourself decide whether the changes will take place the easy way, or the hard & painful way. In your dream, you chose the hard & painful way. It doesn't have to be this way in your waking life; make conscious decisions instead of unconscious ones...that, in a nutshell, is the message of your dream.
The DEATH SCREAM you describe is the fear and anger and resistance of changing. Resolve these feelings so it won't be so hard on you to make positive changes in your life.
I described what the black & white meant, and the blood. The
color RED is symbolic of WARNING and passion, as well as anger. I mentioned that blue was symbolic of spirituality.
INDIAN CURRY may have more symbology for you than I could know about, such as if you enjoy it or hate it, certain times you remember having it and the situations surrounding it, etc. As a spice, it would be symbolic of adding "flavor" to one's life. The HOSPITAL smelling like this spice may be symbolic of how complex yet interesting this rejuvenating change in your life has been. Or it could simply have appeared in your dream because you smelled food that someone was cooking nearby. It's not uncommon to incorporate outside influences into our dream, so we don't awaken.

Ok, "Pat"; that's it!
Now for my usual disclaimer....please take any interpretations as suggestions to sift through and "try on for size," and only keep what seems to "fit" in your situation. If it feels true to you, go with your intuition. If it doesn't feel true, or off-kilter in some way, then explore further for answers that do seem to fit. It might take several re-readings to understand the concept of this interpretation, so just let it sink in. My interpretation isn't meant to be therapy or professional advice, but I sure hope it helped!
Ultimately, each individual dreamer must decide what their own dreams mean. Please do not take anyone's word as "gospel" if it doesn't feel right to you, whether they have a PH.D or all the experience and fancy titles in the world. If it doesn't hit the mark for *you*, then it's not for you. You'll know.
Please let me know what your thoughts are on the interpretation. I appreciate your feedback.
