The Great Leap of Faith

It's yours, take it,
Leap like a lunatic
Over the chasm below
Erupting as you go
Your true self awaits you
NOW you will know

Everything happens for a reason.

The fates lead him who will--him who won't, they drag.

Be at peace and see a clear pattern and plan running through all your lives. Nothing is by chance.

--Eileen Caddy, Footprints on the Path

For those who believe, no proof is necessary.
For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.
--John & Lyn St.Clair-Thomas/Steve Shackel,
Eyes of the Beholder

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.

Man cannot discover new oceans until he has courage to lose sight of the shore.

It is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters, in the end.
--Ursula Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness

Why destroy your present happiness by a distant misery, which may never come at all?
For every substantial grief has twenty shadows, and most of the shadows are of your own making.

What you resist, persists.
--Joe Sumrall, Lighten Up

When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.

Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.

Points To Ponder

All we are asked to bear we can bear. That is a law of the spiritual life. The only hindrance to the working of this law, as of all benign laws, is fear.
--Elizabeth Goudge

We have seen too much defeatism, too much pessimism, too much of a negative approach. The answer is simple: if you want something very badly, you can achieve it. It may take patience, very hard work, a real struggle, and a long time; but it can be done...faith is a prerequisite of any undertaking.

--Margo Jones

Don't compromise yourself. You are all you've got.
--Janice Joplin

"I can't help it"...that's what we all say when we don't want to exert ourselves.

--Eva Lathbury

I look in the mirror through the eyes of the child that was me.

--Judy Collins

Fear is only an illusion. It is the illusion that creates the feeling of seperateness-the false sense of isolation that exists only in your imagination.
--Jeraldine Saunders

We want the facts to fit the preconceptions. When they don't, it is easier to ignore the facts than to change the preconceptions.
--Jessamyn West

At fifteen life had taught me undeniably that surrender, in it's place, was as honorable as resistance, especially if one had no choice.
--Maya Angelou

A cheap tool is an expensive tool.
--Paul the Gardner Guy, HGTV

This quote is a good one, and you can apply it to many things in your life. Are you the type who will see something you want--a camera, for instance; but not let yourself get it because you think it is too expensive, so you get your second or third choice, instead. But you are never satisfied with your second & third choice, and eventually you finally break down and get what you really wanted in the first place. Now, you've spent much more on that "cheap tool", making it more expensive than if you had just gotten your first choice.

Staying with someone you don't really want to be with, or "making do" is another example. What is that choice eventually going to cost you in lost opportunities, perhaps having a child you hadn't planned on adding to the equation & now complicating issues with a person you really didn't want to be tied to for life...see how expensive that 'tool' became?

Go for your dream, and don't compromise unless it would be foolhardy not to do so. A good rule of thumb in life, whenever you are wondering about which choice you should make.

Beware the cheap tool!

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Into his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
--Emily Dickinson

Discussing the symbolism of an Apollo 11 Commemorative Keychain gift: "This gift you got me for my birthday...you never got the chance to tell me why you gave it to me, or what it means, but I think I know the meaning...

I think that you appreciate that there are extraordinary men & women, & extraordinary moments when history leaps forward on the backs of these individuals. And, that what can be imagined can be achieved; that you must dare to dream, but that there is no substitute for perserverance & hard work & team work, because no one gets there alone. And, that while we commemorate the greatness of these events & of the individuals who achieved them, we cannot forget the sacrifices of those who made these achievements and leaps possible."
