This dream interpretation was from my monthly column Sea of Dreams at

ADRIFT's DREAM :

Almost every night I have very disturbing dreams. on 2 occasions I have dreamed I was shot and I felt the dying process and I really wonder if this is an omen or something. Yes at times I am very stressed out but I actually have no reason to be. I dreamed 1 night thatmy father was aboard a ship, of which I have many dreams involving ships and the water, but for the first time in my life I was able to tell him just how I felt about how I was treated for 40 years. There is much more but my hubby just walked in with a pile of groceries.

Dream Interpretation :

Shot : this symbol usually points to aggression in some form, and often reflects a loss of life force energy due to emotional turmoil caused by traumatic events in one's life that they have a hard time dealing and coping with; usually an experience involving an aggressor. It is important not to give our energy away to others by giving them permission to upset us. I'm not saying that the original event(s) wasn't difficult or that it was possible to avoid, but I am saying that you need to put a stop to the emotional turmoil that is continuing long after the event(s)...it needs to be brought to the surface and healed, so you don't continue to symbolically "die a thousand deaths. "

If you have continued to suffer emotional abuse from your father or anyone else in your life, you also need to find a way to cope and empower yourself.

The intensity of this need for emotional healing is evident in the starkness and horror of feeling the dying process in your dreams so vividly. This issue must be addressed, because it is holding you back from truly enjoying life and progressing on your spiritual path.

Water is often symbolic of emotional turmoil, and the bigger the body of water, the bigger potential of emotional turbulence possibly involved. The ocean is often symbolic of the "sea of life" and it is very important to be in charge of your own emotions, or you'll be adrift for a very long, agonizing time.

You said you have many dreams involving ships and water. Ships symbolize emotional trips, and naturally we want to be "Captain" of our own emotions. You said your father was aboard your ship,

so this points out that the characteristics involved in your emotional trip are paternal in nature, given the context of your dream and your comment about how your father has treated you for 40 years. The dreamer should be at the helm of their ship/emotions, finding a way to prevent harm caused by developing better coping and interpersonal communication skills.

The number 40 in numerology is said to represent a mystical energy that can charge up to a higher perception and frequency if the dreamer can successfully regroup their energy instead of letting it leach out, which is represented by being shot.

I find it an interesting coincidence that you often dream of ships, water, & dreamt of the number 40; and in the well-known parable in the christian Bible that tells the tale of Noah, he builds his ship to prepare for a total renewal of life on earth, eliminating all non-believers that were corrupting effective progress...and going adrift in the rain for 40 cleansing days and 40 nights. It was turbulent while it lasted, but when the storm finally cleared, there was renewed hope, peace and harmony. Your dream is calling for emotional renewal to happen in your life, and only you can make this transformation.

If you've been enduring emotional turmoil for 40 years, you're certainly past ready to desire safe harbor and set anchor. It's apparent that you've made some progress because you were able to tell your father in your dream how it made you feel to be mistreated for 40 years. That's excellent!

Many people feel traumatized by dysfunctional childhoods, and it can cast a darkness over their entire lives until they find relief from their inner distress. If you feel the need and haven't already, please consider finding assistance via self-help books, or locate a therapist or counselor who can advise you on the best way to clear your emotions. You said, "Yes, at times I am very stressed out but I actually have no reason to be." You may be distressed over ineffective coping skills that no longer work for you, probably learned in childhood but not a great help in your adult life. It's time to learn how resourceful you are and charter a course that includes learning new coping skills.

It helps to recognize who is "talking" on your inner tapes... is it your father, or you? Your feelings always matter and are always important...if you are stressed, this is a signal that a coping skill isn't up to snuff or working right for you, and needs to be relearned, re-aligned and balanced so you won't be wiped out by daily events in your life. Once you learn how to do this effectively, your recurring disturbing dreams will evolve or stop entirely, letting you know that you are successful. Good luck!

I have a very short, rather dull sounding dream, but it was so 'real' it woke me. In this dream, I was having a normal work day and was standing in the hallway at the office talking to co-workers when a man walked up to me, tapped one finger in the center of my chest and said, " Your chakras are all out of whack;" then he walked away.

Dream Interpretation :

Your dream may seem insignificant and small, but it quite effectively & distinctly speaks volumes. It really speaks for itself, making this an easy dream interpretation!

Work : self explanatory, this symbol refers to your job. It also clues you in as to what is causing your chakras to be out of whack; you could have been at home in your dream, but you were at work. There's an imbalance between your work persona and your off-time persona. Working a lot of overtime lately, or feel as if you're pulling teeth at work, having to put too much effort into your job? Or perhaps the reverse is true and you are not feeling challenged enough at work. Figure out what this imbalance is, and ways in which you can align more beneficially.

Standing in the hallway : standing can be symbolic of many things...inactivity or indecisiveness; a metaphor for "take a stand" or "making a stand"; any number of possibilities. I suggest you try the TTAQ Method mentioned in the side-bar frame of every Sea Of Dreams interpretation (*the TTAQ link is below in The Dream Emporium Menu) , and see if you can figure out more about this dream's personal meaning for you if none of the above possibilities seem to match up. Hallways are symbolic of a narrow part of your life's path in which you cannot avoid and must progress through in order to accomplish your goals, and sometimes points out subtle resistance that needs to be overcome. Think of it as a spotlight saying, "You are HERE."

Man & co-workers : symbolic of whatever characteristics you are reminded of when you think of him... is he a knowledgeable person, a no-nonsense type who cuts to the chase and doesn't belabor a point, or what specific characteristics or attributes do you think he could be mirroring in this aspect of yourself? Co-workers in your dream are another suggestion that work and possibly interactions with co-workers at your job are part of the imbalance you have, giving you helpful clues to follow. Tapped 1 finger in the center of your chest : this is the area we all point to when we are saying, "Who, me?" We point towards our heart. Not coincidentally, this is the heart chakra, the 4th chakra that has to do with our ability to feel and give unconditional love, and is our connection to the divine love of our Higher Power/God. Other attributes include: forgiveness, compassion, group consciousness, peace, tolerance. If the heart chakra is imbalanced, it is said that you may experience anger, heart problems, rigidity, or lack of love. If one is too empathetic and giving towards others, they may be avoiding dealing with their own lives and addressing their personal issues, which need healing. You could be giving more than you are receiving, (or the opposite) which can create imbalance.

I'm not going to focus entirely on the heart chakra, since your dream speaks of all the chakras being out of whack. If you are unfamiliar with the definition of chakras, you can find helpful information at the website I below; in the meantime, a short explanation:

Definition of Chakra:
Chakra in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India, means "what revolves" or "wheel," indicating that these force centers are wheels of energy. There are 7 in the body. It is said that when any of these chakras are imbalanced, our body's energy flow is interrupted and dis-harmony occurs. This can lead to stess or dis-ease.

Kundalini is said to be the energy center of our bodies, emanating from our spines, and housing the 7 chakras.
I am a novice when it comes to kundalini, so here is what Kurt Keutzer of Kundalini Resource Center @ http://hmt.com/kundalini/ has to say about it:

"What is kundalini?

''Kundalini'' literally means coiling, like a snake. In the classical literature of hatha yoga kundalini is described as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. The image of coiling, like a spring, conveys the sense of untapped potential energy.
